There is a great activity involving a watermelon, but there are tow problems with it: its messy and there might not be any watermelon in Telluride.

There is a great suggestion to bring different kinds of seeds for the kids to identify. Maybe we could play a game where the kids match the seeds to their fruit or flower. Another idea was to bring in different types of soil.

The First Communion

The lesson suggests we do a communion in Children's Chapel, but it might be a little difficult to pull it off.

Maybe we could just do a small snack and explain the importance of Jesus breaking bread and sharing wine with the disciples.

We should incorporate and activity teaching the kids what it means to follow, but remember this is just an idea.

A House built upon the rock. This lesson comes from Luke 6:46-49 and Matthew 7:24-27.

A great activity is to have the kids build a house with playing cards or blocks of some sort. We want the kids to see the difficulty in building the tallest house.

The Good Samaritan. Our scripture Luke 10:25-37.

We have not focused on this, but this week's lesson suggests the kids learning the Books of the Bible. We could make cards and have kids arrange books of the New Testament and Old Testament.

Parable of the Prodigal Son. The scripture for this lesson is Luke 15: 11-32.

We want the kids to learn that relationships are more important than material possessions.

The lesson suggests making a list of things that are important to us.

The website provides some crumby activities. Here is an idea make a couple puzzles with your family photos and give the kids a chance to arrange the pieces into one complete picture. You could throw in some pieces of material goods, but they don't belong anywhere in the puzzle.

February 28th

This lesson is based on the Parable of the Lost Sheep. Our scripture comes from Matthew 18:10- 14 & Luke 15:1-7.

After this lesson, we want the kids to know that God cares for each and everyone of us.

An idea is to do an activity based on losing and finding. There is a maze provided here.

The first parable we'll focus on will be the Unmerciful Servant. This week's lesson is based on Matthew 18:21-35.

We want the kids to learn forgiveness. So maybe we should play a game that teaches right and wrong. Unfortunately, this is a game you'll have to create.

This lesson is called The Gift of Christmas

We want our children to learn the true meaning of Christmas this week.

I'm not in love with the craft this week. I have an idea, but you can take it or leave it. I was thinking the kids could make a no bake dessert to share with their families when they arrived home.

One idea is:
Chocolate-Peanut Butter Crispix Mix

1 package semi-sweet chocolate morsels
1/4 cup peanut butter
6 cups Kellogg's Crispix cereal
1 cup powdered sugar

In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt chocolate at "high" for 1 minute. Stir and heat for an additional 30 seconds at "high" or until melted. Stir in peanut butter.

Gently stir in the Kellogg's Crispix cereal into chocolate-peanut butter mixture, until well coated. Pour mixture into large bag with sugar, then gently shake until well coated.

Its possible for the kids to make it them, but you bring a finished product for them to take home.

This week's lesson is called Let Your Light Shine.

This lesson will revolve around the Magi and how they followed a bright star to find Jesus.

There are a couple activities for the kids to follow. If you have the time, the one where the kids create a star could be a fun activity. The children can take this star how and put it on their Christmas tree. It will take a little prep work, but it could fun for the kids.

Our verse for this week will be Matthew 2: 1-12

The website suggests a bulletin board for the activity. Another though would be having the kids gather items. Trying to simulate how to gather. We could pour marbles on the table and let them gather those. Remember this is just an idea I had.

God Made me

This week's lesson is called God made me. You can follow the link here.

We have already to discussed creation with the children, but this week we want the kids to understand that God created them in God's image.

For some reason Kids Sunday School keeps suggesting the same activity for these past three weeks. I vote we pass on this activity again this week. The kids are learning that God created them, so we should let them do a creation of themselves. We could do this with markers/crayons or we could even use clay. Remember this is just a suggestion from me.

The passage from this week comes from Psalm 139: 13-16
